BGS Win “2009 Blues Group of the Year”@5th Annual South Bay Music Awards

*Perform Live: 3rd ANNUAL SILVERADO CONCERT SERIES – Sat., June 13*

(ORANGE COUNTY) – Blues Gone South (BGS) took home “2009 Blues Group or Artist of the Year” honors at the recent 5th Annual South Bay (L.A.) Music Awards, which took place at the Improv in Irvine, beating out a field of over twenty worthy competitors.
Blues Gone South perform live at the 3rd Annual Silverado Concert Series 2009, 27641 Silverado Canyon Road, Silverado, Saturday, June 13, 7:45-10 p.m. on the Main Stage. Free. Info: (714) 649-2411.
The Orange County-based group headlined the first “Chicago Blues Night” at the House Of Blues/Anaheim in May, playing to an appreciative, sizeable crowd. In April they were featured on the nationally-syndicated radio show, BLUES DELUXE.
BGS is a longtime, established blues band which has played to rave reviews in shows from the South Bay to their home base in Orange County. Fronted by harpist-vocalist Papa J (Jeffrey Hudson) and also featuring drummer Kofi Baker (son of legendary Cream drummer, Ginger Baker), BGS play a smokin’ hot mix of original blues songs as well as classic Blues numbers in a wailing, Southside-of-Chicago style. The band is rooted in the tradition of early 20th century blues fueled by the energy of the new millennium. The excitement created by the front line, along with their unique originals tunes, makes this show far above that of a typical “blues” band.

“This is a serious fistful of the blues by an expert team of players. Blues Gone South is the authentic article,” writes Rob Swick of ALL ACCESS MAGAZINE. “It’s a fact that when you’ve got the blues, you’ve “Gotta Keep Movin’,” and Blues Gone South is a darned good band to help you on your way!,” the review concludes.
“Papa J” is a great showman who dazzles audiences with his howlin’ harmonica and trademark ‘gentlemanly howls’ directed at the female members of BGS’s audience. This front man is the real McCoy – dedicated to only the finest blues traditions. Baker is known throughout the country as one of the top timekeepers and makes Blues Gone South swing and really take off when they get charged up.
BGS has shared the stage with James Cotton, Taj Mahal, Bobby Bland, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds just to name a few. They have played B.B. Kings, The Coach House, House of Blues, and Doheny Blues Festival, to name a few. Their debut CD is entitled GOTTA KEEP MOVIN (Hound Dog Records).
